During times of fear and uncertainty, heroes can take many unexpected forms. While the global COVID-19 crisis wages on, manufacturers are rising to meet society’s critical needs in order to prevent the spread of disease and preserve the health and safety of those on the frontlines.
In one recent instance of manufacturing heroism, distillers traditionally famous for producing the whiskey, rum and other spirits have shifted gears to produce much-needed sanitizers to help stem the spread of COVID-19. For example, Destileria Serralles, which manufacturers Don Q rum in Puerto Rico, recently announced that they have “Refocused our manufacturing operations to produce ethyl alcohol and donate it to hospitals and public health providers. This type of product is recommended to help prevent COVID-19 when used as a sanitary agent and disinfectant. The company will be coordinating logistics with hospitals, eligible organizations and health providers throughout the island.”
