You might love the Plex Smart Manufacturing Platform, but do you know the people who make it possible? Talented Plexians have been working hard behind the scenes for decades. They’re what make this company great, but few get the chance to step into the spotlight they deserve – until now. This month, say hello to Mid-Market Account Executive Marcus Jones.
Tell us about your role at Plex.
First, I identify companies that would value a partnership with Plex. Often it starts with the prospect explaining their business challenges and how they keep track of the success or failure of their business (Key Performance Indicators). There are many steps after this but in short, I help organizations solve problems by building a partnership with Plex.
What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job is that there is always something new. Every company that we speak with has a nuance to their business that no one else has. Solving the customer’s qualifiable and quantifiable problems is fun to me.
Your favorite Plex memory is:
My favorite memory at Plex happened during the midst of the Flint water crisis. I brought this issue to Plex leadership at the time and I received a tremendous amount of support from Plex and the Plex community. We ended up buying 3 semi-trucks of bottled water at cost from our customer Meijer Grocery in my hometown. I’m still very grateful for all the help!
How will technology make the world smarter in the next 10 years?
I have been very interested in the growth and use of Blockchain technology – specifically smart contracts. This is a technology that is secure and can be applied in practically every field.
Tell us about a major opportunity or challenge in today’s manufacturing industry.
Let’s start with the challenge… The biggest challenge in manufacturing today is shortages - supply chain shortages, labor shortages and chip shortages. Every manufacturer that I speak with is experiencing this to some capacity.
The major opportunity within this is the increasing need for automation and machine data insight. Manufacturers are trying to optimize the people and processes they have today to accelerate training of new employees and get a better grip on their margins.
Where are you located?
Michigan.
What are your favorite things to do on the weekend?
My favorite thing to do on the weekend is enjoying time with my wife and kids, going to the gym and there is usually some type of kids practice or activity going on.
If you could spend the day with any celebrity or historical figure, who would it be and why?
Kobe Bryant. To me, Kobe was the ultimate competitor who never let adversity get in his way. He challenged himself to bring the best out of everything he touched from sports, business, film and philanthropy. One of my favorite movies is his documentary “Kobe Bryant’s Muse.”
Three musical artists you never get sick of are:
JAY-Z, Amy Winehouse and Kanye West.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
During COVID, one hobby that I picked up was wine making.
